Leg pain – Often called sciatica because of inflammation of the sciatic nerve affects almost everyone at some point in their lives. Pain can range from mild to severe and disabling.
The cause is commonly one of three things (although it could be a combination):
A Special Chiropractic Technique Pulls Bulging Discs Back
A bulging disc is by far the most common. 40% of the general population has mild bulging discs, and no pain. Fortunately, even painful disc bulges usually respond well to a special chiropractic treatment called flexion-distraction. Dr. Franklin trained with the originator of the flexion-distraction technique, Dr. James Cox, and has the special table Dr. Cox designed.
The technique is very gentle, and involves specific stretching of the affected area to pull the bulge back into place. Since the disc is firmly attached to the vertebrae above and below, flexion-distraction can be likened to pulling the ends of a slack rope to straighten it. Results are gratifying and have saved many people from surgery or a lifetime of pain.
Other Causes of Leg Pain Respond Well, Too
Sacro-iliac problems respond well to chiropractic care. I usually see them heal and stabilize to normal faster than spine problems.
The third cause, scissored muscles, responds well to massage therapy, also available in the Healthy Place.
